Shri Kulswami Koleshwar

Shri Koleshwar is the family deity of Barve Clan. Temple of Shri Koleshwar is located at Kolthare village in Ratnagiri district. It is said that most Barve’s used to stay in Kolthare. But as per persisting environment and time many members of Barve clan migrated and settled down at various places across Maharashtra and outside. While Barve’s worshipped local Deity’s wherever they settled, Shri Koleshwar continues to be the family deity of Barve clan.

Shri.Koleshwar temple is in Kolthare village about 4 miles away from the port of Dabhol. Holy Water which continuously seeps over the Shivlinga is called as Ganga Tirth. This holy water can be consumed by all the devotees irrespective of the seasons throughout the year. It is observed that about 2-3 litres of holy water seeps through the Shiva Linga daily. The speciality of Shri Koleshwar is it just not Shiva but a rare combination of Brahma and Vishnu with Mahesha. Another rare thing is the absence of the Bull – Nandi in front of ShivLinga. Shri Koleshwar temple was built by Shri Late. The temple is structure is 60 ft vy 40 ft and consists of 3 segments. The first segment is Sabha Mandap which is 22 ft by 25 ft. The middle segment is 23ft by 22 ft. In this segment priests sit for various vedic prayers. This segment is covered with a spherical dome. Then comes the third portion which is the sanctum sanctorum. This is also covered with a spherical dome at the top. Sanctum is 15ft by 20 ft. The temple walls are made up of Stones and is about 5 ft wide. The sanctum with dome on top was built by Shri Joshi. After few days the middle segment with its dome was built by Shri Late. Finally the Sabha Mandap was built by Late Shri Babasaheb Agharkar between 1780 to 1800 with help and donations from temple devotees and well-wishers.

The Annual festival of Shir Dev Koleshwar is help every for 7 days from the Kartik Shukla Paksha 10th Day until Kartik Krishna Paksha First day.

KulSwamini Yogeshwari

Family Deity of Barve Clan is Kulswamini Yogeshwari. Yogeshwari temple is situated in Ambajogai town of Marathwada area. Ambajogai is located close to the district headquarters Beed. Yogeshwari temple is located on the western side of Jayanti river which flows through the center of Ambajogai town.

The temple architecture is Hemadpanti sculpture. The temple entrance is about 3 ft in height. Various Sculptures are carved in the pillar stones of the temple. Sanctum sanctorum is engraved rocks. Sabha Mandap of size 90 x 45 feet is engraved in Stone as well. There is an inscription of the time of the Indus King dating back to 1247 AD. This Ancient Kali temple had three temple peaks which became one post the reconstruction. There is a water tank right in front of the main door which is called as ‘Sarvatirtha’.

The Goddess statue is of ‘Tandla’ type which looks like an Omkar on 4 ft tall platform. The idol is about 3ft high and 2 ft wide. The only visible part of the goddess is waist and above. The ‘Tandla’ has mouth, nose, eyes, etc. resembling the body parts of the idol.

A Grand Celebration of the Goddess – The Navratri Festival is celebrated in the month of Ashwin. Similarly, the nine days from pure Sapthami Margashirsha month is also celebrated as Navratri. Margashirsha Purnima is considered the day incarnation of the goddess.

One of the story related to Jogeshwari prevalent is – Shri Bhagwan Parshuram created Konkan by shifting the sea shelf. He then felt the need of people for working on the farms. He wandered around in search of people until he reached the village of Ambajogai. He took along with him 60 families belonging to 14’Gotras’. These families later settled in Konkan region only. Shri Jogeshwari was the Goddess deity of these families which continued to be the Deity in the future as well.
